Marsh Fritillary 28 final instar larvae found on dry Succisa-rich heath in count lasting 20 minutes at B 8024, Magheraclogher, Bunbeg, Co. Donegal. Less than 10% of the habitat was covered, as conditions did not favour fuller coverage. This site may be indicative of the current status of many Marsh Fritillary populations on sites extending from south of Dungloe to Bloody Foreland.

Marsh Fritillary larval nest 1, Meadow Brown c.20, Small Heath 1 at Killeglan Grasslands SAC off R357 south of Thomas Street (Dysart)/c.9.5 km north of Ballinsloe, Co. Roscommon. This is an outstanding site, consisting of dry, semi-natural limestone grassland with scattered carboniferous limestone rocks and boulders. The grassland is species rich and contains a range of orchids. Sadly, the adjoining area that held the same habitat has been destroyed by land reclamation, at least as recently as September 2009. Conditions were overcast at time of visit.

Brown Hairstreak ova 18 at Gortlecka; two were on a plant that held eggs in the past, but not in the last three years at least; 16 eggs were found along a 20 metre section of sheltered south facing young Common Blackthorn plants where I saw a female lay an egg on August 9th. This area was searched on February 18th but no eggs were found. Location is R 304 944.
