The records for 2022 are below. The first sighting in the year for a species is indicated in bold.
Robert Aldwell (13/01/2022)
Red Admiral 1 at O22042837 at Church Carpark, Newtownpark Avenue, Blackrock, Co. Dublin. At about 12.30 as I walked along the pavement a butterfly fly past me or were my old eyes deceiving me?! Although there was full sunlight it was only 6 C. But it landed on some metal skirting and begins to bask. It was a Red Admiral, a small example in very good condition. Jan 13 is the earliest in the year I have ever seen one.
Ciarán Flynn and Enda Flynn (16/01/2022)
Peacock 1 at J 10748 17222 at Anglesey Mountain, Co. Louth (323m). Light breeze, sunny, 5C but felt warmer in the sunshine. Seen basking on a rock at around 11:30.
